Sometimes being in trouble can make your life awesome! ©

I have a habit of not keeping quiet when I see something wrong being done. It did not matter who it was done to, I had to defend that person, it could be a total random person or it could be me.

I was having my attendance being taken, by this super strict and super weird class teacher of mine, yea she was weird or maybe that was just me thinking.

I was doing some work with my partner, she told me to help her with a subject, and when my roll call came I forgot to answer. My class teacher hated me for my guts, and she needed just an opportunity to take me to the principal.

She got the opportunity then. I ignored the fact that she took everything I did in class as an act of indiscipline. Well I was standing up for being the class representative, (Or the class lawyer as my class mates call me) so I thought it was my duty as a to be class representative to stand up for my class mates.

Anyway, we were studying in our English period ( the most boring period! ) and then suddenly a guy entered the class saying that the principal is calling me. I thought it might be for the class representative thing. So I went with this slight nervousness, and then when I entered her office I saw the principal with my class teacher, something hit my 6th sense. It was telling me I was in trouble.

The principal was in her late 40’s, and yes I would say she did not look like a usual sad looking very old principal. She was elegant, and had class. I sat down next to my class teacher, and the principal against our desk.

She finished her conversation with my class teacher and then looked at me and smiled. Her smile was warm and friendly, but I was still nervous. She said some random things to lighten up my mood, but it really did not help.

“So Naina Dasan, What is your problem?” she asked me casually.
I did not know what to reply, she caught me off guard.
“What do you mean?” I asked her, or I guess she caught i wanted to say that. I was so nervous I don’t remember anything.
“Your class teacher here says that she cant control you in class…”

My immediate reaction was to look at my class teacher, yes she was looking like a devil, she just needed a tail and horns to make herself one.
“I did not complain, we just came here to discuss your problem!” my class teacher replied, with the most fake smile ever.

I bit down on my anger and I said, “I cant take anybody accusing me for something which is not my fault!” I blurted out.
“Why do you think everyone accuses you?” the principal asked me.
“Because they do!” I replied.

“That is not it Naina, teachers never accuse you!” the principal replied.

Slowly and steadily the principal got out my problems, yes she managed to do that, she took out everything that disturbed me and the best part is, she did not hate me. I was crying, yes crying a lot, the principal came and hugged me.

I think hugs melt me really fast. So I fell in love with my school principal, she was my friend. I did not attend the whole day at class, I was out. My best friend in class was there with me. I was angry, and I was sad and when I am angry I hurt myself. I did not stop hurting myself, and then my best friend called in my school principal, surprisingly, she came.

I thought it was something like I went there once and she would forget me, but she didn’t. I was with her for two periods and then my best friend picked me up from the principal’s office.
The rest of my day, I was at my school roof, staring out of the window with my best friend sitting next to me.

After that day, I never hesitated to go back to the principal’s office again if I needed help. She always managed to make out some time for me. She even saved me from getting my mobile caught a lot of times. Well I never said I was a girl who followed rules.

The principal knew I bunked (though she did not like it one bit!) but at least she loved me for whatever I am.

I was glad to finally find someone who I could share my stuff with, she really made my life beautiful. So I would say all teachers are not bad, well specially my school principal.

Life can get really great sometimes ©

I wanted to make the world accept me, but I guess that was too much to ask for, especially because normal people don’t like someone with different ideas.

I looked at myself in the mirror and said “don’t give a damn to the people who hate you, look at the people who love you!”

While saying that I realized how fake I sounded, yes I do have friends, but I just have one good friend.
You could say the one I go to with all my problems, she was the best for me, and in fact she was the one who taught me the meaning of friendship.

“Bye mom!” I said as I walked out of the door, and went to my bus stop. I stood there waiting for my bus impatiently and then the bus arrived. I climbed up and sat at my usual corner and talked to nobody. I did not have anyone to talk to you.

I could hear people sitting in the seat behind me were talking about me as if I did not exist in front of them. Somebody came down and sat next to me. I wouldn’t have noticed her if she didn’t look at me and smile.

This was the first time somebody was not hostile towards me. My so called best friend was also hostile with me, she still is sometimes, but less than the others.

“Hi!” she said.
“Hey, You new?” I asked her.
“Yeah, dad got transferred, so am staying here now….. My name is Sanya and you are……?” she said waiting for me to finish.
“Uh, Ruchi!” I said quickly and shook hands with her.

“Hey why are you so nervous?” she asked me frankly. I did not know what to reply to that. I did not know if I could tell her that I was shocked that somebody was talking to me.
“I am not used to people being friendly to me when they see me…” I said frankly.
“Why is that?” she asked me puzzled.
“They think I am a freak, just because I think differently, and I am also inclined towards the same sex..” I said.
“You’re homosexual?” she asked me.
“Not exactly, Just that I was drunk and I kissed a girl in a party….” I paused.
“COOL!” she said with a wide grin.
“You’re the first one who thinks so, but I really hate it that they talk in front of me as if I don’t exist.” I said.
“We can do something about that….” She said and looked behind.

The two girls behind me stopped talking and looked at Sanya, “Hello!” they said politely.

“Hey there guys, I was just wondering if you guys could tell me more about this girl sitting next to me?” Sanya said.

They did not hesitate before they spoke about me, maybe I was the only one who was feeling weird. Sanya listened to them seriously, and then smiled and then laughed.

“You guys are seriously weird, She beat up a guy in school? And you are scared of her?” she laughed again. She looked at them and then she said “What did the guy do?”

“He tried to kiss another girl, who he was dating!” they said together.
“And that girl didn’t want to kiss him!” I completed.
“And she was the girl you kissed in that party! Just accept it you were jealous!”

That line hurt me, I did not have any feelings for anyone, Specially not for any girl.
“Oh just shut up!” I heard Sanya say and then she turned towards me and hugged me.

I was crying, I still was not used to people treating me like this. I really did not like anything that happened to me at school. I hated school.

The bus stopped in front of the school, and I got off, I felt my eyes burning. Sanya walked with me inside the school.
“Class?” I asked her.
“12th section B” she replied.
“Hey that’s my class!” I smiled.
“Cool, I can sit with you!” she smiled.

As I was about to enter the class I felt someone holding my hand and then I was pulled in towards a corner.

I turned around to look at the person and before I could react he kissed me. The kiss was not anything forceful, it had feelings in it. Feelings? I thought and then pushed him behind.

He was my first crush, and my X – best friend.
“Prateek… why?” was all I could manage to say.
“I don’t like the way the school treats you…” he said as he looked away.
“Great now they will call me Bi – sexual! Great! Thanks!” I said and walked away.

Sanya looked at me and I looked back at her and sighed. I felt really comfortable with her, and I knew she wanted to know what exactly happened.

Before I could explain it to her, Prateek entered the class and ran toward my seat and sat down in one knee. I knew what he was going to do.

“I love you Ruchi!” he said it very easily. My whole class started laughing, exactly what I was expecting.
“I love you too Prateek!” I replied sarcastically, and I got up and ran out. I went to the school ground and sat down there alone.
I saw people staring at me and walking off, why did everyone gawk at me? Was I really that weird?

“You just think like that…” Sanya said as she sat down next to me.
“I am sure Prateek did that to make the class laugh out loud!” I replied.
“He really loves you…..” Sanya replied.
“How do you know that?” I asked her.
“He shut up the whole class after you left…” Sanya replied.

I realized what I had done to him, “Oh my god! I need to apologize to him!”
“Yes, I think you should, and yea, I know you like him too,”
“No I don’t” I said, as I felt my cheeks getting warm.
She started laughing and then said “Go!”

I gave her a hug, she had become a close friend in a matter of few hours. I guess something good was finally happening.

I ran inside the classroom, nobody said anything to me, and Prateek was missing.
“Where is Prateek?” I asked the boy on the front desk.
“He went to play basket ball!” he said.
“Thanks!” I said and ran out.

I saw him alone on the basket ball court, he was trying to score baskets but couldn’t. Nobody was there next to him. It was just me and him on the court.

He threw a shot and I took the rebound. He looked at me and smiled. I smiled back at him.
“I will make you a deal!” I said.
“What is that now?” he said teasingly.
“If you score a basket, I will be your girlfriend!” I said smiling.
He took the ball from me and then ran to the center dribbling the ball, he threw it from there and it was a basket. He smiled teasingly at me, and then said, “I also want to make a deal”
“Now what is that?” I replied.
“You shoot from there, and if you don’t basket, I get a kiss!” he said teasingly.

I shot from the location he told me, purposely not trying to make a basket, and obviously I missed. He suddenly came behind me and then hugged me, I turned around climbed up to my toes and kissed him. He kissed me back too.

Suddenly I heard a whistle and I broke off and turned around and saw Sanya whistling, I knew I was blushing. I snuggled inside Prateek’s arms and then went to Sanya.

“Prateek, this is Sanya! My best friend!” I said with a wide grin.
“I know her,” he said as he smiled.
“How is that possible? She just came in today?” I said.
“She is my closest cousin sister, she always knew I liked you…” he said.
“You helped him? That’s why you are with me?” I asked her.
“No ways Ruchi, I think I didn’t even know who you were until I saw Prateek taking you somewhere and kissing you,” she replied.
“yea, I really did not expect you to do that…” Prateek replied.

“Whatever it is, I am glad to be friends with you Ruchi…” Sanya said as she smiled.
“yea me too!” I replied cheerfully.

I went back home and looked at myself in the mirror, I was finally satisfied with myself, I had a friend, and I had a boyfriend. People were not looking at me the way they used to thanks to my boyfriend.

Life was finally getting normal, and I was happy, I guess that’s all I wanted, and I got it.

Not all ghosts are scary! ©

We were on our way to the museum, it was a school trip. The most common place for a trip from school was the museum. They had no other place to go. The teachers thought that a school trip to the museum was educational. But the actual truth was that, nobody saw the display in the museum.

The museum attendants usually had a hard time handling the students; therefore we never went to the same museum twice.

My friends and I were sitting in the bus and chatting. Our gang was considered to be the coolest in school. Reason being, everyone knew how to have fun. Meghna, my best friend was sitting with her boyfriend.

Yes, I was single. My friends used to say Anuj (another gang member!) had a thing for me. I really did not care. So there I was, sitting in the bus, staring out of the window. I wanted something different out of my life.

Something, that would actually make me feel special and different.

There was a huge bang outside the bus and the bus stopped. We were in the middle of nowhere. We were all asked to get out of the bus. The bus was literally smoking. I looked here and there for any mall or shopping complex, but I could not find any. All I could see is a line of trees and inside it we could get glimpses of a cottage.

I don’t know why, but I started walking towards the cottage. It was as if something super natural was pulling me towards it.

In about 5 minutes I was in front of the cottage door. I looked here and there, I found nobody close to me. I knocked on the door twice. Nobody opened the door. My mind was telling me to walk away. But my legs were not moving. My hand automatically went to the door knob, and it unlocked the door.

As the door opened, I closed my eyes and I was inside the darkness of the house. There was something really spooky about the house. Suddenly adrenaline rushed through my body and I sprinted towards the door. I tried to open it, but it did not open. I tried to kick the door, but my foot became heavy as soon as it reached the door.

I immediately understood that the house did not want me to leave. I went back inside and saw a staircase. I did not understand what to do. Yes, I believed in ghosts. But I did not believe they meant any harm to us.

I climbed up the staircase, and the staircase looked centuries old. It was squeaky and made a weird creaky sound when I took each step. When I reached the first floor, the staircase collapsed.

“Shit!” I whispered to myself.
“Don’t worry, its just that its too old…” Said a voice from behind me. My reflex was to scream.
“Shhh… please I’m not a ghost!” said the voice. I finally had the guts to turn around and look at the boy. He had short hair, and looked about my age. His dressing style showed he was from a very rich family.

“What are you doing here?” I asked him.
“The same as you… I was also attracted by this house yesterday… but I could not get out!” he said. I did not say anything and looked around. The house was really very scary.
“By the way, I’m Tarang…” he said.
“I’m Pragya…. Nice to meet you!” I said politely.
“There are no signs of ghosts here you know!” he said. I looked at him for exactly 5 seconds and then said “How the hell do you think we got stuck here?!”
“Maybe something wrong with the floor and house, its pretty old!” he said.
“You don’t believe in ghosts do you?” I asked him.
“No I don’t, they are just in books.” He said arrogantly. I did not reply to him. I started walking towards the room closest to me. I knew there must have been some reason of me being in this house.

I entered the room and the door slammed shut behind me. “Quit playing jokes with me Pragya!” said Tarang from the other side.

“Tarang open the door and get inside! Its dangerous out there!” I said. Suddenly I heard him struggling. I tried to open the door, but I could not. It was stuck.

I turned around and saw Tarang standing in front of me. I was shocked to see him there. He had no way of coming inside. He took a step towards me, and I started moving backwards. I knew he was a ghost. I reached to a dead end, when I was at the door. He came closer and then suddenly he said “Pragya…… My body is still alive… please find it and take me outside…”

His ghost vanished right in front of me. I looked into the blank air and then suddenly the door behind me opened. I saw Tarang’s body lying on the floor. I had found his body, but he was still. He looked dead.

Suddenly Tarang’s spirit appeared right in front of me. He was not melting into his own body like I imagined. He was just standing there still.
“Why are you not in your body?” I asked him.
“Because only one thing can connect me to my body…” he said.
“And what is that?” I asked.
“You…” he said blankly.

I burst out laughing. I knew he was just kidding. “I showed you your body! What else do I have to do?” I asked him.
“The ghosts said, you have to kiss me…”
“I thought you did not believe in ghosts…” I said.
“I met them… they are all around you… Though you cant see them… they brought us here for a specific purpose…” He said.

I thought about Tarang. He was a total stranger to me, I did not know him, but then it was different. I had asked god for something different, and he had granted my wish. I did not say anything and went and sat next to Tarang’s body. Yes, he was handsome. Then I realized I wanted to kiss him. I did not hesitate and bent down to kiss his lips. The moment our lips met, everything around us changed. It was as if the world was spinning and then I realized he was kissing me back too. I opened my eyes and saw the house was totally different. It looked brand new.

I got up, and he got up next to me. “Ummm.. I think we should leave…” I said, avoiding eye contact with him.
“I love you!” he said and pulled me into his arms again. I did not resist, infact I liked the fact that he held me. It seemed as if I knew his soul forever. We got out of the house and saw the house looked exactly the same from outside. We held hands while walking into the ground where the bus was waiting.

From then on, we always were together. So I would say, my soul mate was found by the help of ghosts.

A Rare Birthday ©

It's Natasha's birthday today. We were really good friends once. But things got wrong and we didn't even want to see each others face. From good friends we became good enemies. But still I can't forget the good times we both had. And here I am at her place on her birthday. You see, we're not really enemies any more but we're not even good friends. We're just friends who like to talk to each other. I've never visited her over a year now and here I am going to her place for the get-together. I guess I still consider her my friend.

I rung the door-bell, Natasha came running to answer the door. "You're the first one Ria! Come on in!"
"I'm the first? And I thought that I was late! Anyways, Happy Birthday!", saying this I handed her the present.

We went in her room and chatted for sometime. You know, the usual stuff. After a while, the rest of the friends arrived and the party began. I didn't know much people at the party. I just came there just because it was Natasha's birthday and she had asked me a lot of times to make sure that I was coming. We all danced and had loads of fun and it was about time for me to go home.

Natasha was seeing all her friends off and I was waiting for my mum to pick me up. Natasha came up to me and said, "Hey Ria, thanks a lot for coming. It really means a lot."

I was surprised. I never expected her to say those things to me. But I guess the friendship we had would never change because of a silly fight. I smiled and replied, "Why? You thought that I wouldn't come? We're friends remember!"

"I actually expected you to come but I'm just glad you did. I hope that you didn't get bored."
"Well I'm always gonna be there for you! So, you don't have to be glad. That's what friends are there for!"
"Yeah you're right. Let's be friends forever. No matter what happens, we'll always be great friends!"
"Yeah, I promise!"
We both smiled at each other. Now we both were glad. Suddenly I heard a car horn and my mum was there to pick me up. I got into the car and waved Natasha goodbye.

Although I didn't know most of the people at the party but there was one thing I got. I got my friend back. Sometimes you have to do boring stuff to make your friends happy and that's exactly what I did and I felt good. Now I am just as glad as Natasha that I went to her place.

First date! ©

“But Pragya, I want to be myself for my first date!” I said to my best friend.
“Today you’re going to act like a girl Shruti, now shut up and let me get you ready!” Pragya said while working on my face.
“I wonder if I could ever win an argument from you!” I said in the most irritated voice.

She smiled and continued doing something on my face.

I was going on my first date with my boyfriend Rohit. Even though we had been dating for 3 months, my mom had allowed me to go for the first time.

“Here you go!” Pragya said with a final touch of eyeliner on my eyes. She turned around my chair and I looked into a mirror. It was a reflection of a complete stranger. My hair was pinned up in a way that only two strands on curls were falling on my face.

“Is that really me?” I managed to say. She started laughing on that. “Shruti, you really do underestimate yourself, don’t you?”

Before I could say anything the door bell rang, I was going to get up and run to the door when Pragya said “Shruti act a bit like a girl! Please!!”

I looked at her for exactly 5 seconds and then said “OKAY!”
She was grinning widely at me; she rushed to my closet and took out a pair of sandals given to me by my mother.

“How come I have never seen you wear these?” She asked.
“I have never worn them.” I said blankly.
“Well, these would be perfect with your dress. Now wear them and I will go attend to Rohit.” She smiled and then went out the door.

I waited for the door to close and then sighed. I did not know how I landed up with the perfect guy. I looked at the watch it was 7:45 pm. He said he would come to pick me up at 8:00 pm. This was his limit of perfection. I looked into the mirror and said to myself “What did he see in me?”

I got of the stairs gently and then looked at Rohit with his black colored suit. He had a bow tie, and was sitting in front of my mother. My mother looked at him with her eyes wide open. She then turned around and looked at me. Her smile was gentle.

She finally approved of our relationship! I thought to myself. Just as I got down the staircase, Rohit was right next to me. He held out his elbow for me to hold. I tugged on to him. He looked at me and said “You’re looking beautiful!”

“Thank you!” I said, while I felt my cheeks burn. My mom came up to me and said “Enjoy your date!” I nodded.

She turned to Rohit and said “Have her home by 10”
“Yes I will ma’am!” He said with a smile. We walked outside the door. He opened the car door for me and then went to his seat.

“So… where are we going?” I asked.
“It’s a surprise..” he said with the kindest smile and drove.

He turned around into a dark alley and stopped the car. He opened my door and held my hand. I got of his car. The alley was totally empty. He clapped his hands twice and the lights turned on. I just looked at the alley there was a spotlight on a table for two. Rohit came up behind me and hugged me. Suddenly music started playing in the background.

He backed off and then put his hand forward and said “Shall we?”
I held his hands gently and started dancing with him. His body was warm and with every move I got closer to him. At the end of the song he gave me a slight peck on my lips.

The dinner was set up so beautifully, that I did not even care to sense the taste. While driving back home, he said “I am going to leave this Town tomorrow, I will miss you Shruti…”

“You’re going?” I said shocked. Finally my mother had accepted him and he was leaving town.
“I will come here every week to see you...” he said with gentleness.

The car stopped in front of my house, but I did not care get off. I could not believe he was leaving town. We used to sit together at school, and in between classes we used to hold hands, kiss each other. But now he was going.

He opened my door and then kissed my hands gently and said “Shruti… we have our whole lives to ourselves… These years would feel like seconds…”

I kissed him and said “I will miss you!”
“I will miss you too…” He said. He walked me to the door and gave me a good night kiss.

I entered the house and saw Mom and Pragya looking at me with curious eyes.
“The date was beautiful!” I managed to say, and ran upstairs.

That was my first date with my boyfriend, and he had done everything to make my date special. This was the day, when I truly learned that he was the person who I was in love with, and the one who I was going to spend the rest of my life with.

A New Beginning ©

So, here I am at my new school. Well, school isn't the only new thing, it's new school, new city, new house and a lot of other new things. You see, my dad keeps getting transferred to new places, so I'm kinda used to all this stuff. But I still can't ignore the excitement of the new place, the fear of not fitting in and the the sadness of leaving old friends behind. But I'm going to stop thinking about this and make a brand new start. So, this is me, Nikki Sharma, starting at anew place, a new beginning.

I entered the school, went straight to the office and performed the usual rituals that every new student had to perform. By the time I was finished, it was already time for my first class so I quickly rushed to my home-room as I didn't want to be late on my very first day. I was in such a hurry that I accidentally crashed into someone. "Hey, what's the rush? Take it easy!", the girl whom I crashed into said. "I'm sorry" I apologized, "I'm new to this place....could you tell me where Room No. 56 is?"
"Room 56? Why, that's my home room! Let's go together! I'm Anuja by the way!"
"Nice to meet you Anuja! I'm Nikki."
"Nikki as in Nikki Sharma?"
"Yeah...how do you know my full name? Have we met before?"
"Of course silly! Don't tell me you don't know who I am! I'm Anuja Arora! We were in fourth standard together...do you remember me?"
"Oh yeah I remember! I'm sorry I didn't recognize you!You have changed so much!"
"So have you! Now let's hurry or our class teacher will eat us alive!"

The classes passed like a blur and soon it was our 'Free Hour'.
"Our school provides us with Free Hour. We are supposed to spend our Free Hour in other co-curricular activities. It depends on whatever you are most interested in and there are a variety of clubs which you can join, whichever fits you best", Anuja explained.

"Well that sounds like a cool thing. Let me take a look at the various clubs."
There were a variety of clubs to get started with. Clubs on books, music and what not. But the club that interested me the most was 'The Horror Freaks Club'. Now you may consider me a freak but I'm interested in this stuff. So I became a member of the club.

Well, the club as the name suggests was about nothing but paranormal stuff. The club conducted its daily meetings and the members discussed ghosts and spirit sightings, shared ghost stories and did other activities. I even made some friends there-Sakshi, Manan, Anshika, Yash, are a few of them. Sakshi reported that there was a sort of haunted manor in the city itself. So we decided to give it a try on Saturday.

Saturday arrived and we all reached the manor at sharp 6 p.m. We brought flash-lights with us and also a big rope which could be tied at each one's hand in case something happened. So, all prepared, we entered the manor. It was pitch dark inside and I have to admit that I was pretty scared myself. I think all of us was getting the creeps cuz Manan kept cracking silly jokes in order to keep the mood light. All of a sudden everything froze, m flashlight didn't work and the ropes around my friends' hands loosened and fell to the floor. And then I saw the most horrifying site of my life. All my club friends, Sakshi, Manan, Anshika, Yash...were floating up in the air and they were not human, they were something else, something silvery white, something like ghosts. I was petrified. Then Anshika or rather I should say Anshika's ghost said, "You don't need to be afraid of us Nikki. We are here to recruit you as our true club member."

"Wh-What d-do y-you mean?" I somehow managed to say those words.
"We mean that we truly want you as a part of our club. And that's possible only when you become like us."

"Nooooooooooooooooo!! I don't wanna be a ghost. I want to live my life." I ran as fast as I could but my legs weren't fast enough. I rushed out of the front door out into the overgrown garden. I was just a few feet away from the gate of the manor when I bumped into Anuja.
"Anuja run as fast as you can! This place is full of ghosts!" I tugged at her arm to run away with me. But Anuja didn't move. She was smiling. And slowly she turned like all others, silvery white and I could easily see through her. I was horrified

"You don't need to be afraid Nikki. I assure you that it won't hurt a bit."
I couldn't help it but some powerful, invisible force was pulling me back into the manor. My legs weren't obeying me. All my club mates and Anuja were closing in on me and then I felt a whoosh of air. I felt light and I saw my body lying at the floor.

Now I was one of them. I was a silvery white ghost. I wanted to cry but I wasn't human any more. I felt horrible.
"Hey it's okay! We're gonna have loads of fun!" Sakshi assured me.

Fun? How can one have fun as a ghost. Well now that I come to think of it, there's a lot of stuff I can do as a ghost. See, this is not exactly what I wanted but now that I'm a ghost, I can't help it. It's not that bad even. I always liked paranormal stuff and now I'm one of them. So, it is indeed a new beginning!
